What we are seeing in the Mid East, in Venezuela and elsewhere is brutal colonialism which is defined as 'geographic violence' and whose primary purpose is always 'economic plunder'. As Albert Memmi also wrote, 'the colonizer hates theory'. Why? Because theory explains the 'condition' of oppressed peoples.
This also relates to the longstanding colonial oppression of Scots and the plunder of Scotland, which began as territorial annexation dressed up as 'Union', itself a colonial hoax, , followed by genocide and population displacement, the latter ongoing.
If pseudo-nationalist imposters such as Sturgeon and Swinney ever read 'postcolonial theory' they might be able to understand our 'colonial condition'. Perhaps more importantly they might then be able to find the only remedy for that condition - liberation.
Plenty applied postcolonial theory in this article linked below and forming a basic understanding necessary to complement other aspects, such as 'statecraft':
You may wish to read this recent submission to the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding Scotland and other annexed colonized territories on 'The Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Conflict and Post Conflict Situations' :
Another blood and soil nationalist making a grotesque comparison between truly oppressed nations and Scotland, a country that voted democratically to remain in the Union. The Scots, as it happens, disproportionately led the colonisation of countries all over the world, and indeed bankrupted themselves trying to do the same to Panama.
Reagan, a class act, really? Clinton was a far better President. Also, tali,g of allies, the SNP wanted out of NATO until quite recently.
Patronising clown.

Colonialism 'is based on psychology' (Cesaire), as the more assimilated native ably demonstrates, e.g. by denying their oppression:

Informed good sense, as usual, Jim. We underestimate the extent that Trump hates Europe, not just transactionally so to speak, becuase qwe won’t do what he demands, but because it represents an entity he hates ideologically.
