Scots should by now have a far better understanding of our colonial condition. Unfortunately the nationalist elite, including the writer here, 'has never undertaken a reasoned study of colonial society so the peoples understanding remains rudimentary' (Fanon).

It is not so much political theory that we need, but rather postcolonial theory, to inform us why we are where we are and what needs to happen next:

Westminster is a place that doesn't respect the vote of the Scottish electorate.

SNP should withdraw and should have withdrawn when Johnson officially said no to Section 30. There is no more point in sending SNP or Alba MPs to London.

Amongst the meaningless mantras, simpleton slogans and pathetic platitudes in Flynn's statement (http://archive.today/2024.11.12-092521/https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/politics/6625567/stephen-flynn-aberdeen-opinion/) there were a few nuggets that gave away his real aims and agenda:

“I took some time to properly think things over because there was a high degree of interest in what I was going to do or not do next.”

This is just the careerist's admission that he's a careerist.

“As John Swinney rebuilds the SNP and refocuses his government, I feel that I can contribute towards the next chapter and help build the case for independence”

What the first part of that sentence really means is that he’s come to an arrangement with Swinney to take over the SNP leadership when the departs (probably in 2026 post Holyrood elections).

The second phrase is easily interpreted as meaning he's had enough of the travelling, he’s lost a lot of his SNP mates at Westminster, he fancies being next SNP leader and First Minion and a nice easy life building his bank balance as he accepts the pay, pension and perks presented to fellow leeches at Holyrood.

“And, in doing so, I’ll aim to be as unashamed as always in putting Aberdeen and Scotland first.”

Can’t disagree with the bit about not being bashful about his naked ambition.

“Others have done it in the past, not least Alex Salmond and John Swinney, and I’m positive about the prospect of walking the path they previously trod.”

Imagine mentioning Salmond and Swinney in the same breathe as if they were somehow equals. And, worse, having the temerity to compare himself to Salmond!

Somebody acquainted with Scotland's first (and easily best to date) First Minister needs to administer the same treatment that Lloyd Bentsen once dished out to Dan Quayle during the 1988 US Presidential Election:

“Sonny, I served with Alex Salmond. I knew Alex Salmond. Alex Salmond was a friend of mine. Sonny you're no Alex Salmond!” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWXRNySMW4s)

Fancy it Jim?

"But in politics what marks out the outstanding personalities, in whom people can invest trust, is that ambition is twinned with an overriding sense of public duty."

An independence movement needs leaders who fundamentally understand what self-determination Independence means - i.e. it means decolonization - and who can communicate this message to the people.

Scotland therefore needs liberators; we dinna need mair public servants takkin an oath tae ser anither croun an cultur. Self-determination and liberation is a matter of the human right of 'a people' to end the crime of colonialism. It is not a 'public duty', it is a moral imperative.

I watched this man at the declaration of the voting for leadership amongst Yousef, Regan and Forbes. He was sitting beside John Nicolson. Just before the announcement Flynn shared his phone with him and could hardly contain their glee. I knew then the result before it was spoken and I knew then this man is in this for himself and could not be trusted. Why are there still people in the SNP? Better folk have tried and failed to change it. It is caught and bound.

Come the Holyrood election, whether in 2026 or earlier I will not vote for ANY MP that has been sitting on their arse in London doing nothing, clear out the lot of them. Bloody grifters.
